I wouldn't mind spiders as long as their dead and not crawling around while chewing them. Can't be much worse than an MRE.
As far as what I think is the most disgusting edible food out there, I would say ant eggs. We had a type of "Fear Factor" at work a couple months ago and it smelled disgusting and from what I heard, tasted disgusting. It looked like soup though. |

As for the Ants eggs, They are very popular in Mexico, Just be careful next time you buy a burrito!! Anyway the Ant eggs in question are called Escamoles in Mexico, heres a bit more about them... Escamoles are the larvae of ants of the genus Liometopum, harvested from the roots of the agave (tequila) or maguey (mezcal) plant in Mexico. In some forms of Mexican cuisine, escamoles are considered a delicacy and are sometimes referred to as "insect caviar". They have a cottage cheese like consistency and taste buttery, yet slightly nutty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBnHVj7HgYU Happy eating |

Anyone heard of Casu Marzu, the cheese ?? Casu Marzu is not your average cheese lover?s cheese. The name of this Sardinian specialty literally translates to ?rotten cheese.? And if that?s not to scare you away, how about a few thousand wriggling maggots? That?s right. Casu Marzu, otherwise known as walking cheese, is an Italian sheep?s milk variety with a little something extra. You could say it?s alive. Very alive. Casu Marzu begins as Pecorino Sardo (Fiore Sardo), a cheese that?s typically soaked in brine, smoked, and left to ripen in the cheese cellars of central Sardinia. But to produce Casu Marzu, cheese makers set the Pecorino Sardo outside in the open ? uncovered ? and allow cheese flies (scientifically named Piophila casei) to lay eggs inside of it. As the eggs hatch into a myriad of white transparent maggots, they feed on the cheese. By doing so, they produce enzymes that promote fermentation and cause fats within the Casu Marzu to decompose. Sometimes, cuts are made into the rind of Pecorino Sardo and already-hatched maggots are introduced into the cheese. This speeds the whole cheese making process along. Some say Casu Marzu tastes like an extremely ripe Gorgonzola. That is, of course, without the savoury blue veins and with a whole lot of larva. One piece of Casu Marzu may be populated by thousands of living, breathing maggots. In fact, local Sardinians will tell you the spicy, creamy cheese is only okay to eat if the maggots are still moving. Apparently, once the maggots are dead, the Casu Marzu has gone bad ? decayed to a point that?s too toxic for human consumption. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CGseBM85gc Buono appetito! |

Thanks Sofia Last one for Tonight, is a classic, Your gonna love trying to taste this Balut :erm: From the Philippines Behold, for our journey of horror reaches its destination. Balut are duck eggs that have been incubated until the fetus is all feathery and beaky, and then boiled alive. The bones give the eggs a uniquely crunchy texture. They are enjoyed in Cambodia, Philippines and the fifth and seventh levels of hell. They are typically sold by street vendors at night, out of buckets of warm sand. You can spot the vendors because of their glowing red eyes, and the faint, otherworldly sound of children screaming. Once you've tried this, your never going back to a Big Mac Balut are most often eaten with a pinch of salt, some prefer chili and vinegar to complement their egg. The eggs are savored for their balance of textures and flavors; the broth surrounding the embryo is sipped from the egg before the shell is peeled and the yolk and young chick inside can be eaten. All of the contents of the egg are consumed, although the whites may remain uneaten, due to its toughness depending on the age of the fertilized egg. Balut is now being served as appetizers in restaurants; cooked adobo style, fried in omelettes or even used as filling in baked pastries. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXucin9iIaE Yum Yum |
