Designers/Coders -
Are you looking forward to vb4? I've heard that it is quite different from vB3.
Do you expect it to take a while to update your styles and mods? |

I'm not fussed about the whole vb4 thing or vbulletin in general. Not as excited as most people are but I guess it's a welcome change. The style and layout amongst many of the features are welcomed but from my own point it will be atleast a year after the software is released before i even think about upgrading.

From what I've heard Shelley, many people are feeling the same way.

+1 for Shelley. Not at all. I'm not looking forward to vB 4. I dread it ^^ There will be many changes in the base code / template code. I became used to vb3 code. Everything will be to redo on your style/mods. That's why I decided to stop to create other styles for the moment. I wait to view the vb4 code to make other styles... But from another point of view (for non-coder/non-designer), that is doubtless going to 'revolutionize' vbulletin. |

Once we get used to the new way of coding, it should be pretty easy to update mods I think.

Key words there, "once we get used to it". My fear is that we'll have people upgrading to vB4, but coders and designers will be behind in updating mods and styles.
I for one am looking forward to it, having seen the first previews of vB4. But no, I'm not looking forward to having to learn the template system all over again. It'll be an adventure, for sure |

The template system looks straight forward enough and uses a model similar to a lot of other commercial software. In all honesty I could not name another piece of commercial software that has a template engine like VB's current. I welcome the change.

The people I partially feel for are the vbulletin styling providers. As a rule i absolutely loathe styling so I know what trying time lie ahead, I think it will be easier to style but others may not adapt but i'm sure the old timers who have been in the commercial game will (I hate any kind of styling for any forum software) so it will be curious to see how the top vbulletin commercial stylers handle this and adapt to the new code structure in 4.0.
I knew there was a good reason why I never got into the styling game. Interesting times ahead and will be even more interesting to see who adapts and copes with the upcoming changes. |

The style factor is key, and I refuse to launch any personal projects of mine until 4.0 is released.
A forum is a forum, and the modifications are nice, but the core function is to talk. |

I know that I won't be releasing any new designs til after 4.0 is released.
