Requesting comment on drive selection and configuration
Hi all,
I have a dedicated server at a co-location site. My server has two internal drives set to raid 1 I am getting good performance for my site but things are growing and I want to add a SAS underneath the server. I am thinking that I should run some tests on the server to find out what kind of disk utilisation my MySQL and vBs are demanding. Can anyone recommend a tool suite that would provide the kind of useful info I could use to inform my decision. The idea is then to add a SAS with a suitable RAID config (I was thinking RAID 0 +1 providing speed and reasonable backup capability) that provides me with the backup/redundancy as well as performance for the site to grow without residing entirely on the main server. The server is Gentoo Linux has two onboard 80GB SCSI drives striped and I maxed out the RAM. What would you guys recommend as a good setup? I am not yet ready to put another server in at another data centre for full mirroring or whatever - but I will eventually have to do so. Cheers and thanks for any help; Will |
