Thumbnails not working/ Please Help

I'm using 3.6.8 version:
I enabled thumbnails a year ago but all the image attached in the past year to my forum are still displayed on a large size. I want for example the .jpg attachments to be diplayed in line on maximum 100 pixels in size each and to be enlarged in a new window when someone click on them. Is it possible? Do I need to install a hack for this?
