Brought a HDMI dvd player and it arrived today.
But the bad news is - it only plays orginals DVDs. Can you believe that in this day and age - a dvd player that wont play anything but orginals. Now i know what u thinking - its stop me playing copies - well Maybe you right but i can just as easy watch them on my comp or on my Bluray Jukebox (awesome box this) Anyway what if i want to show a picture CD to my friends or some home made videos converted to DVD. Ive actually tried a Wedding Video converted and burnt with Nero and it does not work. All it does is say this machine will only play Orginal Discs - Please insert an Orginal. My point is why limit a dvd player to only play orginals at all - esp seeing as u i could of got a 20 quid dvd/xvid player from Tesco and that would play everything. Anyway im not sending it back - im gonna Bin it simple as. Shame on you Philips shame...................... |

i think i know how to burn a dvd. This player simply wont play anything but orginals.
Ive even checked the player on the net and other people are having same problem with it. I got another one today from ebuyer (HDMI recorder) - plays everything But the point i was trying to make,is why make a dvd player that will only play orginals in the 1st place ?? |

well that doesnt make sense, sure, i agree
what sense does it make for a dvd player to remember somehow, magically where you stopped playing a dvd? idk? but sony did it. my 6 disc dvd player, sony, will remember for every disc where you left off, even if you take the disc out all together adn put it back in a month later....it is annoying as hell. |

making copies of them is perfectly legal, just as long as your aren't doing it and handing them out (paid or not). You have every right to make a backup copy of your DVD for yourself. I use DVD Shrink for that purpose when my disks start to get scratched.

Most of these cheap divx players are completely and utterly crap. They'll play next to nothing and more often than not they'll pack up after a few months or the roms are often dodgy. You get for what you pay for and every now and again we get something rather quite special that will play everything.
I remember buying a warfdale from nettos and it played a couple of times before the rom packed up and even when it was working the backups I made of my movies were stuttering along because of the crappy roms these cheap media players have. I eventually went back to using my Kiss500 player before giving that away. I never play my original blu-rays, dvds and will always make backups of all my stuff and play the backups I make then store them onto my hardrive and play them on my Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player (after a firmware update) will play everything and nothing ever touches a bluray disc, dvd disc, or any type of disc. |

Isn't the idea of coping blu-rays kinda moot? Since you aren't supposed to be able to scratch them?
