replicating user search autofinish

I am creating a feature for the site (that isnt related to the forums really, but is using the forums users and user table as the user base), and I would like to replicate exactly the same ajax user auto complete that can be found when using advanced search > username
(Where it will provide a list of users with what's typed in)

Is there any way I can use this same feature on other pages outside of the forums? If so, how?
