Thread/Post Count Including Sub-Forums?

I have a theme that does not have the post or thread count on the forum home for each forum section. I am coding it in myself and it's all set aside from one piece. Forums that contain sub-forums only show the post count for that forum alone and not the sub-forums from within it. What code do I need to put in for it to display the total number of threads and posts from the specific forum and all its sub-forums.
