so basically i have 2 colors for my topics alt 1(blue) and alt 2(white) and i was wondering what would i need to do to change the color of the cell im mousing over to a 3rd color(gray).
i know this has to be done via CSS but i dont know what template to edit so if somebody could help me out it would be greately appreciated.

it would help bigtime if you had a link to your forum and maybe a screenshot on what you want changed but in the admincp panel you have where you can change link colors or the a hover color

i basically have everything ready on my test server but the mousover thingie wich in the pic is represnted by the light green color

you can change it via the Admincp / Style Manager / Main CSS

look for Normal Links CSS and Visited Links CSS

unless you are wanting showthread change color
