Going to VB Questions
I'm very interested in becoming a member of the VB community, and purchasing the license, and using the software. I however have a few questions that will determine if I go with the VB software or just stick with the SMF software I'm currently using right now on my forum.
Well I did notice that there was a post already made about converting from phpbb3.0 to VB now this import can also be done with SMF 1.1.7 to VB 3.8? The reason why I'm wanting to move from SMF to VB software is because I'm a member and moderator at a lot of forums that run VB software so I'm more familiar with this software than the one I'm currently using. I have noticed though that it seems easy to hack the VB software mostly through the portal page. Now could this be a problem that I may be able to stop from people that know how to hack be able to stop them from hacking the site. I would like to thank anyone that can provide me with good information. I'm just mostly concerned about the safety of my site, and to make it so my site can't be hacked. Thank you NetMatrix |

Yes ImpEx also allows inports from SMF: SMF
the latest supported version is documented as 1.1.4, but unless there have been major database changes in SMF since that version, it should work. You can also check on the vBulletin.com vBulletin Impex Import System forum on experiences of other users regarding a SMF import. vBulletin itself has a very good track record regarding vulnerabilities. If a possible vulnerability is discovered it is mostly patched within a day after it was confirmed. Being hacked thru a portal is not something vBulletin can change as the portal is not writen by us. |
