Guranteed & Burstable RAM?
What's a good amount of guaranteed & burstable RAM for a VPS (I'm finally moving from shared to VPS).
is 256mb guaranteed & 12gb max good? |

Burstable ram is never reliable, so don't count it at all. If you run cPanel too on that VPS you will want 384mb or 512mb guaranteed.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but it's such a big price jump from 256mb to 512mb guaranteed..

If you're talkin about 1&1 and 512mb being 39$ per month, that's actually cheap since Plesk is even included, but they are still pretty bad and oversell. If you cant afford vps then try to figure out how to make more money to afford one .

The 1&1 VPS1 and VPS2 package turn out to be the same price, if you include the coupon offer for VPS2 - so it's $360 for 1GB RAM.
How about this lunarpages? http://www.lunarpages.com/virtual-private-server/ You get 512mb guranteed, but it looks like no burst RAM. Also I've always had shared hosting so I have no idea how "256mb" really works for a website, how would that compare to what you would get with shared hosting? |

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with slicehost, they look amazing. Do you think 512mb would be enough for my needs? I have about 10k registrations and usually have 30-60 people online (both guests + members).

Depends on the number of modifications and what those people are doing online at a time.
512MB of ram should be enough with an optimized VPS |
