Default from database to file system

I am transferring my site from my home server to a host.

My mysql database for the vbulletin is 200 meg with attachments and avatars stored in the database.

The host only allows a max of 51 meg for mysql databases.

I want to change the attachments from being stored in the database to the file structure.

I am able to do this in the control panel of vbulletin but what does it do to the existing posts and attachments?

Does it strip the attachments out of the database and put them in the specified directory and provide a link for the attachment in the file structure in the post?

I don't want to lose the integrity of the posts and attachments.

cheers

It does nothing to the posts, but it will change the attachment table (you will need to optimize/repair it to reduce the size). vB will know the attachments are now in the filesystem and will act accordingly to point to them.

Instead of trying to find a solution to eep under the 51Mb, i strongly suggest that you find a new host. This limit is simply too low to run a medium active board for a longer time.

I do this often, go into admincp/ attachments/ storrage type and you will see the option to move files into the file system. you will need to create /attachments directory in your forum root and chmod it to 777. make sure the spelling is the same as in the admincp. move the files. do the same for avatars, forumpics, sig pics, and the rest of the images. your database should be about 30 meg with 6,000 users after you do this.

All forum owners should do this anyway, makes for small backups and forum runs smoother.
