I saw somewhere infact a lot of forums have this where there is a login box and forum statistics on the side. How do they do it?

Some sort of integration with vBadvanced or Joomla. Or a mod called Ultimate Side Columns, maybe... I've never used USC though, so I'm not sure on that one.
