Asking admins about their forums

Every day this site gets a lot of "does anyone know what hack this is" type threads. In the past, I've had some success with asking an admin through a Contact Us link what mods they use for various things. Am I the only one doing this?

i have had a few admins sign up on my sites to ask me what I use, but that is really rare.

I've asked admins before, and if it's not a hack they coded themselves, they have just told him what it's called and where they got it. I don't ask very often though cuz I am very familiar with the search feature and google.

I'm 0 for about 10 in trying this method. Usually I just end up using a combo of page source + Google.
