Creating custom bbcode like [*]
I use quite a few custom BBCodes that I would absolutely love to be able to use much like the[*] code in lists. Namely, I have a [para] tag that inserts 5 nbsp's prior to a paragraph, and a [clear] tag that I use to clear text below floating images. Right now I have to do and . I want to just be able to do [para] and [clear]. I've looked around quite a bit and the search is just a bit too vague to be useful. Has anyone managed to get something like this going?

Have you read the manual? Custom BB Codes

Yes, I did thanks. And it doesn't answer my question. I want to build a tag like[*] that doesn't require a closing tag.

You could just write a plugin to do a replace string for your tag. Replace "[para]" with " " Or use replacement variables for it.

Question about the replacement variables, can it match a word on it's own, either by wrapping spaces or {curly brackets} around it like the censorship filter?

You can read up on them in the manual - Replacement Variables And, you can always just try them to see what they do (try them on a test style that other users don't have access to or try them on a test site).
