Default supported vs not supported :: what are the differences?

Hello there,

actually I noticed many things about mods, and I wonder what's the difference between mods which are varified as supported, and others which are not??

and when I install a mod in my board I found the link in the mod is a link of the mod thread in the vb.org's forums? so is it a condition that prevents a coder of inserting any link other than vb.org??

supported = the coder give some help about the mod.
not supported = you install if you want, but you'll don't find help

The link to the thread is just to make it easier for you to find the thread if you need to - like to see if there are any updates and what issues were fixed in the last update. The link is just something you can add in your xml file. You don't have to add it though.

Although many people will mark the unsupported option they may still provide support. I know, I have been guilty of not using the option but still provide support because I'm such a nice person.

It's like the user titles don't take much notice in them it means nothing.

I see, so the coder who classifies his product as supported or not, it's not the vb.org committee or somthing like that

Nope, completely up to the coder to support or not support his products

I prefer to go after Supported hacks incase something happened, since I'm not familiar with fixing issues, and don't wanna go around askin for help from others who don't even know the hack..

Supported > Unsupported

I've personally marked all mine as "unsupported" but it doesn't mean I don't give support. I just have little time to give support these days so it's hard for mean to check the thread every day.

For me unsupported == I'll support you if I have the time and happen to notice your reply.

And keep in mind that Supported doesn't mean your question is going to get answered yesterday. It just means that when the author has the time (and if he doesn't over look it) he will answer your question as best he can.

But yeah, there are plenty of mods here that are marked Unsupported, but you actually get some decent feedback. Some are marked Unsupported because they don't really require support (like, I don't know, Smileys). And some supported threads are supported, but at the discretion and conditions of the author. (How many people ignore or overlook MrZeroPage's instructions to not ask for support, request or post links to games in the ibProArcade download thread and to use the support forum instead?)
