How to disable spacer_open in postbit?

How can I disable spacer_open and _close in postbits on showthread? I tried a "THIS_SCRIPT == 'showthread'" conditional within spacer_ templates, but I only want to deactivate spacer_ in postbits and not throughout showthread.
