Does anyone know of a mod or option that allows members to use an offsite URL for their avatar rather than store it on the database?

Have you tried this one - Remote Avatars

(Many 3.5 and 3.6 mods work on 3.7 - read the thread and see if anyone has mentioned if it works on 3.7 then try it on a test site and see)

Why would you want this? If the remote site is slow (or not available) it will seriously slow down your forums.
