No Time To Support Rants?
Quote:
What does this mean? - Does it mean you do not have the time or will power to support/respond to feedback and suggestions given? If so, let me know so that i can give up now - Does it mean you only have the will power to support a "select few"? Just a few questions, feel free to sticky it so that members can have an idea of what to expect ahead of time when making suggestions  |

I've been watching these kinds of discussions the last few weeks. Why must everything turn into an argument if the staff make a decision. I appreciate that a community should have some say in how it's run, but ultimately the staff here are here to do their job. Why not let them get on with it and go about your own business without making sarcastic comments in site feedback several times a week ?
(This was not aimed at you specifically gio, but a few characters who have made similar threads) |

It means exactly what it means, the staff unfortunately does not have an infinite pool of patience to deal with some posts that are neither positive or proactive, instead some posts are quite detrimental to the overall topic and progression of the thread.
When a thread gets to this point, it'll be closed. You're making a very generalized question out a very specific matter, so I'm just going to answer your questions: Quote:

If you mean do we only consider suggestions from a 'select few' ? The answer is clearly no. We consider every single suggestion, usually the discussion on a suggestion is done internally. |

We have several contributors (and by contributors i mean designers, programmers, developers, etc. in which make up this community) suggesting quality features/small additions for the better of the experience on this website. When things are discussed such as a better request forum, a "graphics tab", better organization in threads, would it not be essential to prioritize certain requests based on how much they effect the purpose of this website ? "The Official vBulletin Modifications Site.", yet you say you guys aren't based off of 3rd-party-addons? Wouldn't anything here be "3rd-party", considering it's obviously not supplied by vb currently (or else it wouldn't be a modification)? I'm just wondering why certain "obvious" methods and tools for this website have not been implemented, and are left at a status of "being discussed". This is the "official modifications website", why not modify it to represent it as so? Or are mine and other's views on the purpose of this site not in relation to the views of Jelsoft? Meaning the ideas and suggestions we have are better off left for a new website? |

We consider everything when discussing suggestions internally. I know you're probably looking for something concrete, but that's as concrete of an answer I could give. Surely as a forum administrator yourself, you can understand this.
My particular approach to a suggestion though is to immediately argue against it in my head. Do we really need it? Is it the best approach? I think that kind of mental discourse is essential in addressing any type of potential changes to any infastructure. I don't know when we said we aren't based on third-party modifications? I think you've misunderstood a statement by Joe in another thread about a totally different topic, but I could be wrong. All the custom code on this website has been made by a third-party rather than vBulletin...either by past or current staff or modifications made available through the community. As for making suggestions, you don't need to know how we evaluate them to make a good suggestion. Here's some tips: 1.) Be professional. 2.) Explain What problem brought you to think about this suggestion. 3.) Tell us Why did you choose this particular suggestion as opposed to other alternatives? What makes your suggestion an appropriate one? The most appropriate one? 4.) You're suggestions are not apart of you. By that I mean, do not get insulted or offended if your suggestion is denied. If you think we are being unreasonable, PM us your thoughts. |

Pretty self explanatory I would have thought. We dont have the will power to continue with threads that are simply members ranting because their suggestion is not instantly (or ever) implemented. Quote:

Sticky it ? You can expect that your suggestion will be read, and if necessary, discussed. What you cannot expect is that it will be implemented. If we decide its good, and we have the time to do it, then it will be, otherwise it wont. If we decide not to then ranting about it, and the staff, will achieve nothing. |
