I have recently installed a new skin which doesn't have space for a banner/header at the top, which I'd like to get designed. However, I do not know the dimensions of the forum (width specifically) how can I work it out?
100% means 100% of your browser width. Everyone has their browser set at a different width. If you want it to always be exactly the same number of pixels in everyone's browser, you need to set that width in pixels (ie. 700px or whatever).

Ohhh...so how am I meant to know what dimensions to make the banner if I want it to remain at 100% of browser width?
A lot of people make a banner that just sits on the left (like here) or is just in the center or just on the right. Or, they make it in three pieces (left, center, right) which expand when the browser window expands. Just look at different sites to see how they do it.
