Profile Picture/Avatar of thread creator in thread listings

I would like to replace e.g. thread_new.gif with the Avatar/Profile Picture of the member who opened the thread to give the whole Forum a more personal touch.

How can I do this? Have seen this on many Forums.

They wouldn't replace the thread icons as they are very important in telling people where they have posted and what they have viewed e.t.c. I found this: Avatar on forumdisplay you may be able to modify it further to suit your needs.
