Demo site - how to build

What are the steps in creating a demo site to test stuff on? I'm getting tired of wrecking my main site during my learning process. By the way, I am real new to all this so I need really easy to understand directions.

1. Download XAMPP (Free and Open source)
2. Install it
3. Navigate to the htdocs directory inside the xampp folder
4. Extract vBulletin into a folder in there
5. Use phpMyAdmin inside of xampp to create a new database (access it through localhost/phpmyadmin - the option is on the main phpmyadmin page)
6. Fill in the config details on your vBulletin config file (dbusername will be root and password will be '' - unless you have set otherwise).
7. Install as normal, just remember the domain is "localhost"
