I have a main forum with a login, and of course my vbulletin.

If I change my login php script to access register users using the mysql database will I cause any security risks? I am a n00b with all of this.

Also whre is the database for vbulletin that stores all the usernames and passwords if there is no problem with this

You should use the datamanager to handle users as there are more things to do than just add the user to the table. I believe articles exist for this.
