Okay, I took C Programming and Java in college, but never really used them much afterwards. I understand 'if' and 'else', 'then' blah blah stuff. I did some javascript. I'm pretty proficient at good old html and CSS and all that stuff. I've picked up some PHP and MySQL from 9 years of running and heavily modifying several vbulletins. But what if I want to take it one step further? What if I want to get to the point where I can actually try making my own modifications, creating my own custom hacks? What do I need to learn? Is it PHP?
