Default Speeding Vbulletin Up

I'm running Vbulletin on a Windows server, and it does seem slower than most of the other ones out there. I had a PHP guy come in and tweak it, and it definitely picked up, but it still seems slower than most.

I'm wondering if there are any hacks or settings which I may benefit from? I don't want to rip it apart again. We just got it working right. Ajax is enabled. Anything other than that from the settings area which would pick it up? Also, any mods/hacks for Windows servers?

I'm a noob. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you have mod_deflate (Apache 2) or mod_gzip (Apache 1.3) installed, make sure you disable the GZIP compression in the Admin CP.

Not really any mods or hacks for particular server environments for speeding vBulletin itself up. Make sure you're php and MySQL are configured for performance and of course there are settings in vBulletin itself which may help as well.

Without knowing your settings for each option its hard to tell you what you could enable/disable to gain some performance.

Also, see the Server Configuration forum @ vBulletin.com.

the best solution if you want to speed up your site is to switch from Windows to Linux... no need of a hack... you have the solution in the first line of your request... Windows is not good for web hosting, even when maniacs say the opposite...

Windows is not that bad, IMO. People just make it out to be. Although I do agree that Linux is the better platform for a server.

Part of his site is ASPX and its running IIS, not apache.

I'd have to agree with Nex, damn maniacs promoting windblow servers need to be chmod +x'd!

Thanks so much for all of the feedback.

Yes, the site is written in ASP.NET, so we're stuck with Windows. I don't think the forum is slow to the point where it's not functional. It's just that it does seem slower than many other VB sites I've visited, and yet our forum hardly pulls any of our traffic.

The PHP/databases were recently optimized for performance, and like I said, it definitely got a lot faster. I was just curious if there were some setting changes in VB which might help, but I guess not?

Here is the link: http://www.writeaprisoner.com/vbforum/

Thanks again!

Post in the server configuration forum @ vb, also you might want to disable some of the plugins as they could be causing some serious load.

Ps. what is your server load?
