Modified New Thread for Posting Copyright Articles
I'm looking for some custom coding that will add some extra fields to a new thread form.
A bit of background - I've been contacted by a couple media outlets in regards to members of my forum reproducing copyright content in its entirety and asked to stop this from happening. What I would like to do is add a check box to the new thread page for when new threads are articles from other sites being posted. I'd also like an input field which when the check box is ticked, requires a URL to be entered before the thread can be submitted. When being submitted, I'd like the body of the post truncated at a specified number of words and have the URL provided above appended to the truncated post with specified text (eg. Read More ... Basically it becomes a bit like a manually entered RSS feed. A more enhanced version of this would actually save the full post, but display it truncated for a specified number of days. I've found that many places move or remove articles after a period of time and then such threads become useless as the content is lost. This way I get to not breach copyright whilst an article is current, yet am able to provide an archive for posterity. I'm not much of a coder, but am happy to attempt this with a bit of friendly and oft called upon guidance should anyone think it worthwhile... Many Thanks |

Do a search on "Form Hack". That may do what you want. I recall seeing another similar type of hack but can't remember the name. You will probably find it using the correct search terms in the title. (Search "All Mods" "Titles Only" with your search terms, that's seems to work best for me.)
