Pentium D 935 to a Dual Opteron 246... Is it worth the trouble?
Hi all!
I have a vB with 1,8 M posts and 42 k users with 350 users on-line (peaks of 500-550) in a dedicated Pentium D 935 with 2GB RAM and a 250 GB SATA HDD. Oh... and a very limited budget . Today we are paying U$99/month for our server. Because of an increasing in the on-line users, we're getting loads of 2-3, what is not good at all. I tried almost every tuning to extract all the juice from the server (including Sphinx). To change our server to a Dual Opteron 246 / 4 GB RAM / 73 GB SCSI HDD worths the trouble? I know it's an old processor, but it's only $109/month with HiVelocity Yes, I have a "dream server", but no money now to go for it... Should we change servers? Our budget is limited to a max of U$150/month :| |
