Not to worry, DiesellMinded,
The upgrade script determines what your current vB version is then walks/upgrades you through all the interim upgrades to get you to Gold. There are separate 'mini' upgrades through the 3.7 betas, through the RCs, then to Gold. And, go for the Gold! ~OZ |

This is how the upgrade works.
If you're running 3.6.10 and go to head 3.7.0 (Gold, you'll won't have to deal with RC). If you were using 3.7 beta, and decided to go to GOLD, you'll have to deal with the beta upgrade, and move to RC and from there, go to Gold. |

Coming from 3.6.8 PL 2

You won't have to deal the Beta or RC at all.
You'll have to deal with 3.6.9 and 3.6.10 (Probably) |

I think it makes a difference whether you use the install.php or the upgrade.php when upgrading. I usually use the install.php but this last time I used the upgrade.php. Don't quote me on that though, as this is the first time I noticed it, also.
