Usergroup Promotion Strategy?

I have a client with a site where some members post stories in one particular forum.

Is there a way to create a promotion, so that once someone posts a story in that particular forum for the first time, they automatically get promoted into the writers usergroup, much the same way that a member is promoted once they get to X number of posts?

Is this something that can be done?
