"This is an old thread" pop-up notification
My board has been around for 7 years now, and I have a lot of old threads on them - I don't necessarily want to blanket-close old threads, because there are some that make sense that they keep getting posted on. But there are some that are old, that members pull up through topic search, and don't realize how old they are.
For example, with a medical question, someone posting about their symptoms, and wanting immediate advice on whether they should call their dr, or go to the ER, or just wait till their next apt. So the new member finds this thread in a search, sees it, doesn't realize it was posted 4 years ago and the person has long since resolved this issue - and so they post a response, but it's a wasted response, and a wasted bumping of an old thread. Yet my mods don't have time to examine each individual post made each day and determine if or when it should be closed - and as I stated before, I don't want to mass close any thread past x amount of time old. What I would like is some sort of pop-up that comes up before the member can reply, with a notice saying "Note: This thread is x days,/x months/x years old - please be aware of this when replying to this thread" and they have to then click ok to proceed and reply, or cancel to not proceed. And you could set the time period this would start, say for example, any thread that hasn't had a reply in 6 months could then be in this category, so if someone tried to reply, the pop-up comes up showing them the thread age. Time period should be settable through admin cp. |
