Are there any vBulletin modifications that can give my community / forum better security towards things such as SQL injections, exploits, etc ?

I think there is one. That is put your site on an intra server and lock your server with a strong key and do not connect it to internet.

I read on vbulletin that you should not use any hack/addon which are not officially released by vbulletin.com

The best way to improve security is to not install any modifications.
