Get Username from ID

Is there a function that will return the username of the userid passed to it?
something like:

$user = get_username_from_id($id);
echo $user; //output "alexgeek"

$userinfo = fetch_userinfo($id);
echo $userinfo['username']; //output "alexgeek"
