How do I place an extra banner next to the forum logo?

You'll need to edit your header template.

Styles & Templates > The Style Manager > Editing Fonts, Colors etc. > The Common Templates Editor > header

Add a html img tag, that points to the extra banner, somewhere in the header template. You may have to mess around a bit to get it too look the way you want it to.
