Gentoo is a great distro for a server, if you want to really customise it. The down side is you will be doing a lot of work to get it setup and if you are not familiar with an install it can take a while to learn.

Ubuntu Server would be a good choice as well, if you prefer .deb based applications. I would go with the minimal CD and build it up from there, sticking with only what you need for the server to do it's job.

My vote for CentOS 5. The chief advantages of CentOS are enterprise-grade stability and security as well as a much longer support cycle provided by the CentOS community.

Ubuntu server isn't really that good :cringe:

Try Fedora Core or CentOS5, not that it really matters f you're just hosting a site though.

Fedora = bad for a server

It's only supported for one year and then you need to upgrade. Perfect to have a lot of new stuff on your home pc, but for a server you need a more stable, long supported distro than that. For me that's CentOS (5)

I prefer FreeBSD myself, but Fedora works, and CentOS or RHEL if you can get it free.
