How do I prevent polls from using a threadicon?

My forum requires users to choose a thread icon, but if they also post a poll vB overwrites their icon choice on the forumdisplay. How do I prevent that?

Doing a sql query, I see the right threadicon for the thread, but something is seeing that a poll is posted and is changing it.
