Different Boards, Sharing Common Forums, Possible?
For example,
All the websites are different domains, but when a user goes to the forum, it goes Site1.com forum is on ------board1.mainsite.com Site2.com forum is on ------board2.mainsite.com Site3.com forum is on ------board3.mainsite.com Site4.com forum is on ------board4.mainsite.com All the boards are subdomains of the main site. But they share some common forums, but also have unique forums to that subdomain only. T_T Hard for me to explain. For example, each of the boards, share like 10 common forums, where users across any of the domains can access. They all will share those 10 forums, but won't see the other forums that are made for their different sites. Could this work with one ultra powerful server, and using load balancing? Is this is possible? Besides the common forum, users online would be shared as well. Post count increases on those shared forums. |

That type of setup would require a unique license for each -- fyi.
Otherwise, there is no easy way of linking content and users between vb installations. |

So you're saying it's possible for different forums to share similar content if it's on the same server? It's probably not possible if it were on different domains right? Unless it was heavily modified?
What type of license are you talking about? |

You could probably do it on different domains as long as the domains were both pointed to sites on the same server...

If you figure it out, let me know - I have multiple sites I would like to cross promote between the two and this would be a huge step in that direction.

I wouldn't even know where to start looking. It would take a ton of modification I think. It would be so awesome though if someone could come up with this.

I have a couple of ideas in mind for displaying posts from site a on site b but syncing users would be an issue -- they would have to re-register at the new site.

I have seen different vB boards on different servers sharing a particular forum, they call it "the network forum", and all the threads and posts in that forum are shared from board to board.
Here is an example: http://www.theranter.com/forum/vBull...splay.php?f=51 That forum and all of its threads / contents are shared with another vb board on a different server, with this vB board: http://www.anothermessageboard.com/f...splay.php?f=29 (you must register to view this one though) |

hmmmm, that's interesting.
@theFAILURE, when a user posts at that other forum does that post also appear in the other forum? And this is on a different forum? |
