Operating System
Which OS do you use?
I've had XP since it came out and never really had any problems with it. Of course, it's really the only OS I was familiar with, so I had nothing to compare it to. However, the home and professional were both easy to use and I liked them both. No real complaints for either one of them. I recently purchased a Sony Vaio laptop with Vista and I really don't think I like it at all. Maybe my settings are messed up or something but I'm constantly getting messages from windows about updates, allowing this or that, this program is doing something or needs to do something blah blah blah. And my computer is NOT fast. Like I said in another thread, it's a intel dual core 1.73 so I don't think it's supposed to be lightening fast, but I don't think it should be so slow either considering we just bought it and I don't have much on here yet. What is your preferce for OS? Do you use something windows based? Do you have experience with Vista and do you like it? My husband uses linux something or another and doesn't really like windows, but I just stick to what I know b/c I don't have the time or desire to lean something new at the moment I do think I want my XP back though |

I use Windows Vista Premium... My machine has an AMD Dual-Core Athlon X2 5000+ cpu, 3 GB of RAM, 8600 Gt Video Card, dual 19inch widescreen monitors and a 500 GB hard drive. I enjoy Vista much more than XP. It just seems a lot more polished.
For speed on your laptop, how much memory do you have? With Vista, you really need at least 2 GB of memory for best performance. Well XP works great with 2 GB of memory as well. Less and you will have speed issues from my experience. Most laptops don't come with 2 GB of memory. Also make sure that your processor is running at full speed when the laptop is plugged in. Newer mobile processors go into a slower speed mode when running on battery so that they conserve power better. |

funnily, i'm not into OS wars... Windows VS OS-X is not to be compared... for one detail:
i have OS-X Leopard, >> AND << Windows Vista Ultimate on my computer, switching to Vista when i need to play a game only.. lol and it runs better on my MAC computer than on the best Dell computer actually.. no lag, no flicks, compatible with the entire network in my house... |

I had a gateway machine that was 'made for XP.' After a couple years and a boost in ram I decided to try Vista on it. It was Vista Pro. I do mainly web and graphic work and all my software was PC based.
Installation of Vista went ok but the OS seemed to always be fighting itself for resources. Plus my video card didn't match up to the 'Vista Experience' and I had a score of 1 on the stupid vista experience chart. Long story shortm I sold my PC and bought a Mac. I love OS X and it connects to my laptop without hassle. I can run XP inside OSX so I can run my obscure SEO software and life is good. No viruses, better security, and an OS and hardware that are made for eachother. |

Don't get me wrong, XP is alright, much better than Vista IMO, but it is far too unstable for my liking...
