Is there a way (without using vbadvanced) to put forum in yoursite.com/forum and make yoursite.com using a CSS template with parts of vbulletin (like login feature, some forum threads) integrated to it?

I think this may be a general interest to some users, and I'm wondering if it is at all possible.
If so, is there a link/help to make it work? (ie tutorial)
