Canned Replies drop down for postbit
Hi
I thought this would be a very handy idea. A DHTML drop down with canned replies that can be added by the user in his userCP. The Idea is this: There are always situations, especially for forum staff, where mods/admins need to enforce rules and give the user a reply they have written so often. Or like when you welcome new member to your forum, there are only (at least for me) few variations in what I write in my reply to their introduction. It would be nice if I could have some standard texts as canned replies available that I can simply click into the editor and I am done. How can it work: In the UserCP there is the option to add new canned replies. Each canned reply has a title and the reply itself (including bbcode, images, etc). The title should be short (like 10-15chars) because it is shown in the canned reply drop down. The drop down should be visible in the quick reply and the full reply editor. To make it perfect there could be adminCP options like permissions for whom to use it and how many canned replies someone/some group can store. Is anyone up for this? That would be totally awesome StarBuG |

Hmm
Does no one like the idea? Or is no one willing to give it a shot? |

Many Many Many applications eg. live chat scripts now come with predifined or "canned" replies.
I am surprised to also find that vbulletin does not yet have a system by default, but even greater surprised that such a system has not been made. This would be awesome to use in private messages and throughout the forums. With usergroup options, so only certain usergroups can use it. And with options so certain canned messages can be shared with that usergroup. this would be an idea add on for vbulletin. |

Canned replies can be a real time saver - I used to have a dozen 'templates' which I used to email out years ago for work.
I was always surprised that this functionality didn't come standard (or via plugin) because the vb.com staff are always having to post the same info over and over again. |

I need canned replies for mod/admins so they can use set replies. The hack needs to be able to handle html so can add links in the canned replies.
Im willing to throw $50 into the pot towards this hack - is anyone else going to add some funds as well. |

Not a bad idea. A few questions:
Where would the canned speeches go once you have saved them? To a forum? Would you like it to use the WYSIWYG editor? I think this would be an easy hack to do. Regards Jason |

The canned replies would be stored in the db for every user that has the right to store canned replies (defined by ACP if possible by usergroup and also number of canned replies that can be stored)
It should be a drop down menu in the WYSIWYG Editor where you see the short titles of a canned reply and if you select it, it appears in the editor box so that it can be posted. If possible this should work in posts as well as in private messages. A canned reply should consist of: A short title (like "Welcome 1", "Warning Spam", "RTFM", etc) The canned reply itself The input editor could be in the UserCP or the ModCP/ACP (cause Mods and Admins will be the most likely to use this anyway, but that would limit the options a little) Cool would be a mouse over effect that shows the whole reply if you hover the mouse over the short title in the drop down, if that is possible.
