Well, it has been fun. vB is a great forum but it is time to move on now. Thank you all for the great help an support you have given me. This is still the best PAID forum software out there in my opinion. Not the best after adding modifications and themes as far as paid support (since the first suggestion is to remove all modifications and themes and then see if the errors exist) but the coding and software is great. Support is still tops here and as long as you have a big busy forum and the $ to continue with it, you will not be displeased.
Anyway, since I have no more of the latter and have a simple forum with simple members needing simple things like faster loading, etc. it has come time to move on.
I wish you all well and the the person that purchased my license, I wish you much success with the new site. vB is still tops in a paid forum and I cannot say you went wrong with going with them.
Maybe one day if we become a busy site again, we will take a look back and see how vB is doing from time to time but until then, I have to leave.

What made you choose SMF over the new phpBB3?

Probably because phpBB3 lacks even many basic features such as quick reply, while SMF has semi decent ones. And the latter seems more secure and friendly to things such as server load.

As long as you don't need the latest version, and you have an owned license, it doesn't cost you anything to keep using vB. And security updates are free. Also, I would definitely not say vB takes longer to load than SMF or PhpBB, and I've used both.

I am familiar with SMF forums and features and their great community. phpBB3 history (for me, so please no flaming) has proven not to be as secure when reading about the vulnerabilities.

That is your opinion and respected. This post is not intended for ?his is better than mine? discussion honestly. I switched for my personal issues including money factors, slow speeds, and for the lack of support if you have modifications installed. I did have an owned license but was not going to continue to pay $30 every year after paying $160 for the initial license just to stay current. My comments and opinions are stated above. vB is a great PAID forum software. My new forum software is FREE and I am quite happy with it and it is almost exactly modified the way my other was but quicker load times.
I was hoping that some old friends would post and see me off rather than a discussion of which is better.
Again, thank you all for allowing me to use your free modifications with my former vB software.

Best of luck to you CP, and I think you've made a good choice-- IMO, SMF is the best *free* forum software out there.
