css or js dropdown menus in header?

hey, all.

I've been having real problems with using an image banner header in 3.6.8.

Here's the issue:

I'm using a banner in $header, with clickable image buttons. one of these buttons needs to have a dropdown menu on mouseover, so i looked to js. turns out that the js header I used conflicted with the vb code, and couldn't be used.

i really need to have a dropdown menu (akin to dynamicdrive's one at dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/dropmenuindex.htm), that's hotlinked to an image, and not position-dependent.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it.
