Changing .gifs to pngs

1. I want to change forum_new.gif and forum_old.gif to pngs i have edited every template with those in it and changed it to png and they still show as .gifs.

2. I want to change the post icons to pngs also like the poll image but cannot find where either.

Anyone i really need this fixed
