Hi. Complete newbie. How do I unzip an xml file?

Some of the mods I'd like to use say 'unzip the xml file'...

I'm hoping someone will have the patience to answer my question, in the same tone as 'vB for Dummies'... cough cough splutter

most likely the .xml file is within a zipped file... and that's what they mean by telling you to unzip that file.
