Right Side Column Help

This is an example of one of the many column hacks on vbulletin.org, and i've noticed they all have something in common, they all fit snugly inside the the forumhome like 'attachment 1'.

My template is fixed and looks severely cramped in this instance, so, my question is how can i get an effect more similar to attachment 2?
