Default How do you retrieve information about an IP address (like who is the owner)
I am using this service:

www.ripe.net

but unfortunately it fails to provide information for a lot of IPs. Is there anything better ?

Hopefully you're not using this to do a search on ur forum members IP.

I am trying to protect myself the best I can.

For 2 IP addresses I got the e-mail of the net owner and I sent them e-mail complaining about the hack attempt.

Actually, you can't unless you have a policy stating that you have all rights to do a search on their IP for future reference.

Since he has a valueable reason, than he can get helps from me.

Aye, its freely available information and PCs broadcast it. Please show laws and how they apply to X countries/states/provinces/territories.
