Hi all,
I have about 700 smilies, when viewing them through the vbshout I have it set to show only 150 because if I set it to show all, the main forum page loads slow. If a member keeps refreshing, another random set of 150 smilies will load. But randomly it can pull up smilies that were shown before the refresh. I wanted to see if anyone knew a way to either add a page selection or a category selection or a 'more' option to the vbshout smilies, so that there would be no need to refresh. I have already installed the category hack for the PM smilies, but this has no effect on the vbshout. Thanks. |

One thing I've used is an option to bring up a page without images and just a list of all the bb codes for all of your emoticons. Sometimes your users are just wondering if it's :mean-santa: or :ahole-santa:, and in that case, that user would browse through a good 200 emoticons before they found the one snipit of bb code they need. If you just give them the option to bring up the text file with the bb codes or the images. It can reduce the amount of times your smiley page gets loaded by about 10-20%. People warm up to it.
You can even have about 10 links that go to different groups of emoticons (or bb codes) like "happy, sad, funny, angry, misc, bunny w/ pancake, etc". I've also created sets of static popups to list the emoticons. Then you can run those images on some shared server somewhere, photobucket, imageshack.us or whatever else, as oppose to pulling the actual image from your server. It'll take a little time to set up and maintain, but it'll make a difference. EDIT: I just realized I didn't even answer your question in my long ramble. |
