On our forum, for some reason, the search using "Show posts" returns "show threads" and "show threads" returns "show threads" when you do an advanced search. However, if you use the search that's on the navbar, it works fine.

Where do I need to look to solve this problem?

I would guess it is either in your search.php page, or (more likely, I would think) in your search_forums template.
