how do i get rid of the main category strip

i want to get rid of it and make a diff one i want the whole table gone ..

.. and how do i change the forum cell without effectin the rest of the forum i just want the cells background to change i want a lil gradient on them but i dont want my whats going on box, or thread view to be effected.
