More and more of our users are using our site using their PDAs. I myself use a Blackjack all the time. I've been using WiForums for the interface, but its encrypted and lacks some functionality of the boards I'd like to see.
Has any found a decent posting/reading interface (please dont say the archives, you can't post or access PMs from the archives)? I see this thread from about 7 years ago... has anyone seen the market for this and done something about it? |

WiForums is okay; but it's all encrypted which limits my ability to customize it. Pretty much anything you need has to go through their support system.
On my BlackJack I have to login every time I go to my site and WiForums requires you to login every time before you can browse the site. Pretty annoying. A decent PDA skin would go a long way to making our lives easier. |

What changes do you need from the normal theme to a PDA version?

A much more lightweight skin and formatting for a small screen; drop most of the graphics, the ajax and all the fluff and let people browse, read, reply to threads and get their PMs for starters.

Ancient bump, but I just went with the WiForums software and I love it.
![]() ![]() It's expensive, and the templates are encoded, but support has been good so far and the install is a piece of cake. The only annoying thing about it is that you'll need to reaffirm every custom group's forum permission. Other than that, pretty much plug and play. Install + permission fixing took me about an hour. Also nice is that instead of a skin/detect mod, you just toss it under a subdomain and you can hit it with a browser to do any profile tweaks. |

Is there really no good free mobile skin for vBulletin ? (First person to say the archive gets a boot).

I tried the few that are on here, and each had it's ups and downs. The closest I came to finding one that I liked was Dartho's:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ghlight=mobile But (imo, of course, and no offense dartho) it's just... Ugly. There's so much CSS to customize to get it looking even remotely like your mail theme when in reality, all you really need are dark and light versions. It also maintains a lot of the extra goodies that make vB too big to render on slower connections - no matter how much I trimmed it, it was still a bear to download on a non-3G phone. That's one of the big things that made me pony up the $125 for the WIForums product. It's optimized very well, loads in a flash and maintains just enough of the basics so that usability doesn't suffer. I wish the templates weren't encoded so that I could fiddle with them, but I can understand the author's thinking behind it because if that was the case it'd be pretty easy to reverse-engineer. It's really just well thought out and the fact that it's a completely different install than your regular forum is just the icing on the cake. Hit my site and login with guest/guest and check it out if you like. (I hope this doesn't sound like advertising, feel free to edit this bit out mods if you see fit. I'm just passing on my experience with it.) I'm sure that with enough time you could take the default vB theme and just go nuts cutting bits out of it, but it's just very time consuming and every time I'd have a go at it I wouldn't like what the end result was at all. |
