Maximun online users

Hi, my forum usually has 100-150 users in whos on line... but some days i have peaks closer to 800-900 users, and my server does down :S.

I need to limit that number of maximum users. I think that 200 max users its a good number, how can i limit it?

A mod which can ñlimit this would be a good idea...

the problem that have to be identified is:

do we kick the afk people with the longest activity delay, or not...

do we lock the board depending on usergroups ?! (you choose the usergroup who have higher ranks to keep the connection)

can you set it the same way we set the *NIX Server Load Limit?? (after X hits we lock the board)

I have that peaks of 800-900 one time per week, and it longs one hour aproximately.

In vbulletin options, i used to see the maximum users limit option, but in the newest version of vb this option has dissapeared.

The unix server load.. i have it on "5", but dont know how it works...

Why the maximun users option dissapeared? it was very usefull. And why isnt any mod avaiable for this problem?

why limit the potential growth of your forum.
it will be better to find solution (such as getting a better server) to cater all visitors.

Its a solution, but i cant pay too much, and next step is dedicated server... i have more thank 300.000 mysql queries/hour... and now im on a shared hosting, but im anoying too much other users.

I would want to limit the number of users... and if i see that every day y reach that limit, i would consider a dedicated server.
