Manually change the statistics of total users?

A while ago I had a big crash on my forum and ran a script that deleted members with 0 posts, this made a difference on my statistics of 50,000.

I managed to make this edit in forumhome template:

<strong>Forum Members:</strong> $newuserid<br>

This works perfect because it shows the amount of users based on the last user id. However the problem is, the number is not formatted to thousands so it displays 83465 instead of 83,465. Any suggestions on how I can fix this and make it display in thousands?
